Can You Buy Dog and Cat Vaccines at Tractor Supply or Online?
Yes for some vaccines: farm stores such as Tractor Supply and some online pet pharmacies sell over-the-counter combination vaccines (for example distemper-parvo for dogs and FVRCP for cats) that owners can buy. Rabies is different: to be legally valid it generally must be given by a veterinarian. Tractor Supply also hosts PetVet clinics where licensed vets give vaccines, including rabies.
There are two very different ways to get vaccines at a farm store: buying a vaccine off the shelf to give yourself, or using the veterinary clinic some stores host. Only the second gives you vaccination records that clinics, boarding kennels and animal control will accept, and only the second can legally give rabies shots in most states.
Option 1: Buy over-the-counter vaccines
Many farm and ranch stores and online livestock and pet suppliers sell some vaccines without a prescription, such as:
- Dog combination vaccines (distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, often with parainfluenza and sometimes leptospirosis)
- Cat FVRCP vaccines
- Some Bordetella products
Which products are sold depends on the retailer and on state law; some vaccines require a veterinary prescription. Buying is the easy part. Storing the vaccine cold the whole way home, giving it correctly and keeping to the right schedule are up to you, and records you write yourself are usually not accepted by boarding kennels, groomers or daycares. Can you buy rabies vaccines at Tractor Supply or online?
You should not count on it, and even if you find one, it won't make your pet legally vaccinated in most states. State rabies laws generally require a licensed veterinarian (or someone under a vet's supervision, depending on the state) to give the vaccine. Veterinary infection-control expert Dr. Scott Weese described farm stores in Oklahoma that had to post signs saying animals vaccinated by their owners would not be considered vaccinated.
Option 2: Use a vet clinic inside the store
Tractor Supply hosts PetVet clinics at select stores, staffed by state-licensed veterinarians. When they launched in 2021, they offered walk-in, first-come-first-served service with check-in through the Tractor Supply app, and yearly vaccines including rabies at $25 each, microchipping at $25 and disease screening from $22. Prices may have changed since then, so check the PetVet page or call your local store. Pet store chains also host in-store vet clinics and vaccine services.
How much are puppy shots at Tractor Supply?
The store clinics price vaccines individually and in packages; the 2021 launch price of $25 per yearly vaccine gives a sense of the level, but current prices vary by location. For comparison, a full-service clinic may charge around $46 per vaccine (one national chain's 2025 price), and over-the-counter combination vaccines cost less per dose but come with the risks above. Can I get cat vaccines at Tractor Supply?
Yes, at stores with a PetVet clinic, where a vet can give cat vaccines including rabies. Some stores also sell over-the-counter FVRCP vaccines. Typical cat vaccine prices at clinics are about $20 to $45 per dose.
Which option should you choose?
For rabies, always a veterinarian. For other vaccines, a low-cost clinic with a licensed vet usually costs only a little more than buying the vaccine yourself and gives you proper records, correct storage and someone to handle a reaction. See free and low-cost vaccine clinics.
